About Dyspolity

I am Walter Willis, a political junkie, a former and future teacher, and a huge believer in the fundamental principles that underlie citizenship in the United States of America. As enthusiastic as I am about American potential, I am equally concerned for the current state of our nation. I believe that the individual is politically more vulnerable now than at any previous time in the history of our nation, and certainly this is true of the last fifty years. Our votes are becoming more easily marginalized and manipulated in this age of misinformation, disinformation and obfuscation. As a result, we are also being exploited economically, as the wealthier among us use that wealth to expand thier political influence. This will never be permanent, as long as the foundation of freedom in the Constitution is preserved. But it is the state of our nation today.  This polity is broken, but it can be fixed.

It will not, however, get any better unless we the people take charge and insist on changes. Each citizen must become more involved in the process of government. Henry David Thoreau instructed the active citizen to ” Cast your whole vote, not a strip of paper merely, but your whole influence. A minority is powerless while it conforms to the majority; it is not even a minority then; but it is irresistible when it clogs by its whole weight” That means that each of us must become better citizens. We can all become better informed, more involved, more vocal and become better neighbors.
